INDONESIA'S CAR EXPORTS RELATIVELY STABLE
Jakarta, Feb 6 (ANTARA) - Gaikindo (Indonesian Automotive Industries Association) predicted that this year's car exports may remain steady, and had reached more than 60,000 units.
"Car exports are not disrupted, the chance is small," said the Gaikindo president director, Bambang Trisulo, here Thursday (5/2).
He said that as Indonesian car exports had been avoiding the traditional export markets like America, Japan and Europe, the global financial crisis has no significant effect.
"The global financial crisis had its impact on America, Japan and Europe, which are not our export destinations, mostly we are exporting to the Mediterranean nations. I predict that the Mediterranean countries have a high buying power," he said.
Indonesian automotive production in 2008 reached 100,000 units. To maintain this, the government would try to boost car exports, including to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Latin America.
