Thai government congratulates French President-elect

BANGKOK, May 9 (TNA) --The Thai government congratulates French President-elect Emmanuel Macron after winning the second-round election on Sunday. Lt Gen Weerachon Sukondhapatipak, Deputy Government Spokesman, said Thailand was to send a congratulatory letter to Macron soon. The centrist with business-friendly vision of European integration defeated far-right nationalist Marine Le Pen in the Sunday’s showdown. Lt Gen Weerachon said he expected Thai-French relationship would flourish under the new French leader whose forward-looking vision of young generation would facilitate the future cooperation in the world. Thailand and France celebrate the 161st anniversary of diplomatic relationship this year but it was too early to assess how Macron’s policy would affect the ties, he said. However, the Thai government would continue to promote friendships with any country based on mutual respects, Lt Gen Weerachon said. (TNA)
