Thai-Belgian Bridge in Bangkok resumes full service

BANGKOK, May 11 (TNA) - The Thai-Belgian Bridge in Bangkok has been reopened for full operation after a two-month repair in the wake of a fire damage. Before being resumed for normal public service on Thursday, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) launched the last load tests on May 10 by parking 15 trucks, weighing 25 tons each, on the bridge to ensure its capacity and strength. The repair was finished ahead of schedule, timely to serve the public when the new semester starts on May 16, as about 10,000 vehicles normally cross the four-lane bridge daily. The Thai-Belgian flyover, located near Lumpini Park in Bangkok, was closed for repair following a fire on February 28, caused by a cigarette butt recklessly dropped near plastic bins placed under the bridge.
