Prince Misha`al speaks on King`s directive to limit payment of blood money to SR 500,000

Riyadh, February 08, SPA -- Prince Misha'al bin Abdulaziz Al Saud,
Chairman of Allegiance-Pledge Commission has said that Almighty Allah
ordains punishment to avoid evils and to achieve security in the
Islamic society.

Almighty Allah says in the Holy Quran " In the Law of Equality,
There is (saving of) Life to You. O ye men of understanding;” (S2 V
179).

In a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Prince Misha'al said,"
If the close relatives or heirs of the murdered person decided to
accept the blood money, it is a legitimate right guaranteed for them
by the religion. But there should not be exaggeration as happened
recently to the point where blood money has reached tens of millions.

Almost every daily newspaper publishes news about this matter or an
appeal to raise funds, so this matter has become a phenomenon of a
heavy burden on the person who should pay blood money and on his
family.

Prince Misha'al noted the directive of the Custodian of the Two Holy
Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud that the amount of money
requested to pardon the killer should not exceed SR 500,000 is
characterized by wisdom, insight, and foresight and sensing of the
social dimension of this issue and its consequences.

Prince Misha'al added," This directive reflects optimum level of
rationality and awareness beyond the limits of the current situation.
Moreover, it also shows that the King is looking beyond the future
and its consequences. It also demonstrates the embodiment of his
keenness and interest in the people and his desire to alleviate their
sufferings by whatever might be available under the tolerant
teachings of Al-Sharia.

Prince Misha'al said, “Praise be to Almighty Allah for bestowing
upon this country, righteous and good rulers who rule by Sharia,
adopt it as a constitution, sense the needs of their people and they
are keen on ending sufferings and injustices.

In conclusion of his statement, he prayed to Allah almighty to
grant The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin
Abdulaziz long life and wished grand success to him and the Crown
Prince.
