Overnight rain triggers flood on city roads, school closed
BANGKOK, May 16 (TNA) – Heavy rain caused chaos on the first day of the new school semester as Bangkok’s roads were hit by flooding and one school in Wang Thong Lang district was forced to close.
Overnight rain triggered flooding on 25 main city roads. However, flooding has already receded but it remains in small alleys and low lying areas.
If there is no more rain, the situation will return to normal this afternoon. The highest amount of rainfall was recorded at 113 milimetres in Klong Toey District.
About 400 schools under the Bangkok Metropolitan Adminsitration reopened today on the first day of the new school semester. Navamindarajudis Bodindecha School announced closure today due to a blackout and flooding.
Karun Sakulpradit, secretary-general of the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) said each school can make a decision on its own whether it needs to close, depending on the flood situation at each school. (TNA)
