MNA TO SERVE PALU-TOLITOLI-TARAKAN NEW ROUTE

Palu, Indonesia, Feb 8 (ANTARA) - State-owned airline company Marpati Nusantara Airlines (MNA) will in the near future open a new flight route which connects Palu, Tolitoli, Boul (Central Sulawesi) with Tarakan in East Kalimantan, a spokesperson said.

"If our plan is running well, we hope MNA will begin serving the route in the near future," MNA manager for Central Sulawesi, Catrience, said here on Monday.

She said that regular flights would effectively begin on March 1, 2009. The routes constituted pioneer routes where MNA in its operations would get subsidy support from the central government.

Catrience said the central government was still providing subsidies for pioneer flights. The flight services in the new routes were expected to boost the economic and tourism growth in the respective regions.

She said that after serving the Palu-Tolitoli-Boul-Tarakan route, MNA would also open another flight route from Palu to Poso and Gorontalo.

On the flight ticket, she said that MNA would charge a fare which was within the financial reach of passengers.

She said that competition among airlines in the country was tight so that an attempt to win passengers should be accompanied with efforts to increase service quality because this would affect the financial performance of the company.***
