PT BUKIT ASAM TO PRODUCE 50 MILLION TONS OF COAL


Palembang, S Sumatra, Feb 8 (ANTARA) - The state coal mining company PT Bukit Asam has projected its coal output in the next five years at 50 million tons.
Its president director, Sukrisno, said in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra, on Sunday he was optimistic the projected output could be met as the facicilties for supporting it were adequate.
In addition to that he said coal demand would also increase and therefore the company planned to build a special coal railway line from Tanjung Enim to Tarahan.
He said that in Tarahan, demand for coal reached around 20 million tons so that a special coal rail track was needed.
Regarding the implementation of the project he said it was now awaiting a land clearance.
He said the company also planned to build a coal-fired power plant which would need at least 12 million tons of coal.
With regard to these projects, he believed the company's target of producing to 50 million tons of coal would be met.
Regarding this year's target he said it would increase from the previous year's target due to increasing productivity.
He said the company's coal production this year was expected to reach 12 million tons compared to the 10 million tons last year.
He said the company's production had increased from year to year and he thanked to all the local population for their contribution.
