Thai PM condemns hospital bombing

BANGKOK, May 23 (TNA) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha condemned yesterday’s bombing at the military hospital in Bangkok as an inexcusable crime and an outrageous human rights abuse. He ordered the officials to find those responsible for the attack and bring them to justice, he told the press after the Cabinet’s meeting today. He assigned security agencies to be on surveillance in all areas, particularly at important places and vulnerable areas. Intelligence reports found some persons remained active and ready to carry out an attack for personal gain and political reasons, the prime minister said. Deputy Government Spokeswoman Col Thaksada Sangchan said the premier also ordered government agencies to step up surveillance and to screen persons, entering the premises. They were instructed to check lighting and CCTV surveillance cameras to make sure they are functional. Meanwhile, permanent secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Patarut Dardarananda today issued the most urgent letter to all agencies under its umbrella to enhance security in the capital including government offices and public transportation systems and to prepare their personnel and equipment including medical supplies for readiness in response to any possible untoward incident.
