Bangkok traffic chaos
BANGKOK, May 25 (TNA) -- Heavy rain in Bangkok and nearby provinces throughout last night resulted in flooding on many locations and thus paralyzed traffic.
Some sections of Ratchadaphisek Road in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district were 20-40 centimeters under water this morning. Many vehicles broke down on the road in front of the Criminal Court and caused kilometers long of traffic congestion.
Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang inspected flooding on Ngam Wong Wan Road as officials were trying to speed up floodwater drainage.
The Drainage and Sewerage Department of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration reported rain started in the greater Bangkok at 8.30pm last night. The highest amount of rainwater, 169 millimeters, was reported in Bangkok’s Wang Thonglang district. Flooding happened in 25 areas with the flood level averaged at 40 centimeters.
Motorists were advised to avoid some roads including Ratchadaphisek in Chatuchak district, Ngam Wong Wan, Chinnakhet, Lat Phrao, Pattanakan, Ram Khamhaeng, Srinakarin and Sukhumvit in Bang Na district.
Many schools were closed for one day today due to the flood. (TNA)
