MODERATE QUAKE HITS TERNATE
Bengkulu, Feb 10 (ANTARA) - An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale jolted North Maluku province early Tuesday.
The epicenter of the quake which struck at 02.41 a.m. was in the sea about 103 km northwest of the provincial capital of Ternate at a depth of 99 km, according to the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG).
Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.
North Maluku lies at the meeting point of the country's two main chains of volcanoes.
