KPK NEEDS RP187.9 BILLION FOR NEW BUILDING
Jakarta, Feb 11 (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will need an estimated Rp187.9 billion in funds to set up a new building to house its offices, the commission's chief said here Wednesday.
Speaking in a hearing with the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Commission III on the anti-graft body's financial needs, KPK Chairman Antasri Azhar said the amount would be spent in two stages.
In the first stage, KPK would need Rp90 billion from the 2009 state budget and, in the second stage, Rp97.9 billion from the 2019 state budget.
He said the Finance Ministry's directorate general of budgetary affairs had asked KPK to coordinate its use of the funds in the first stage with the House Commission III.
"We hope the initial funds of Rp90 billion can be approved by the House," Azhar said.
He explained that the KPK's new office building would be built on a 8,264-square-meter plot of land which the Finance Ministry had already listed as a KPK asset.
Azhar said the KPK needed a new office building as the number of its personnel had increased beyond the capacity of its present office space.
He said in 2009 KPK proposed additional funds of Rp36 billion. Rp31 billion would be used to add 133 employees to its staff and Rp5 billion for procurement of communication equipment.
