Indonesia Showcases Traditional Outfits At Canada Day Commemoration
JAKARTA, July 4 (Antara) - The Indonesian Community of Association de la Communauté Indonésienne du Québec showcased traditional dresses at the annual cultural parade to commemorate the 150th Canada Day.
A statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Ottawa received by Antara here on Monday said the traditional fashion parade featured the Indonesian team from North Sumatra, Java, Bali, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi.
Along the two-kilometer-long parade, the Indonesian team also performed the Sesonderan traditional dance accompanied by cars decorated with typical Indonesian ornaments and fabrics.
Indonesian Ambassador to Canada Teuku Faizasyah lauded the creativity of the Indonesian community in Montréal in helping to enliven the Canada Day parade this year.
"The Indonesian Diaspora plays an important role in the promotion of Indonesian cultures abroad," he said.
Canada Day is an anniversary celebration commemorated on the 1st of every July.
Similar to the commemoration of Indonesian Independence day, on every August 17, Canada Day is celebrated with various festive activities, such as concerts, picnics, bazaars, parades, and other events.
In Montréal, Quebec Province, Canada Day is celebrated with a cultural parade along the Sainte-Catherine highway to the Place du Canada.
In addition to the Indonesian community, teams from Brazil, Ireland, and the Philippines also participated in the event.
