MINISTRY PROPOSES LOW DUTY ON IMPORTED RAW MATERIALS OF TEXTILES
Jakarta, Feb 12 (ANTARA) - The Industry Ministry has proposed a cut in duty on the import of raw materials of textiles to increase the competitive edge of the commodity.
"It is true we have proposed a cut in duty on the import of raw materials of textile products which have strong market such as batik," Industry Minister Fahmi Idris said at a working meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VI here on Thursday.
He said Indonesia's textile products which had good competitiveness in the global market were among the commodities affected by the current global financial crisis.
"So, it is necessary to seek a solution to the matter. And lowering duty on the import of raw materials is one of the solutions," he said.
Textiles and textile products are one of the country's main foreign exchange earners. ***2***
