(2nd LD) Somali pirates-S Korean abductees-release

SEOUL, Feb. 13 (Yonhap) -- Five South Koreans and 18 Filipinos who had been held captive by Somali pirates off the coast of Kenya have been released unharmed, Seoul's foreign ministry confirmed Friday.

All 23 crew members of a Japanese-owned cargo ship, held hostage since Nov. 15,
were released around 9:30 p.m. Korean time after months-long negotiations with
the pirates, an unnamed official at the ministry said.
"All are healthy and are being transferred to safer seas," he said. "They will
return home after going through a health examination in Dubai."
The MV Chemstar Venus, owned by a Japanese shipping company, was hijacked in
November in the pirate-infested Gulf of Aden.
