RUSSIA WANTS COOPERATION IN EDUCATION WITH RI
London, Feb. 14 (ANTARA) - Russian Education and Science Minister Andrei Aleksandrovich Fursenko is waiting for Indonesia's response to a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Education proposed by Russia some time ago.
Russia wanted to strengthen cooperation in education with Indonesia to the same level of intensity as in the 1950s, M Aji Surya, counsellor at the Indonesian embassy in Moscow, told ANTARA in London on Saturday.
The Russian education minister held a meeting with Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Hamid Awaluddin in Moscow on Friday (Feb. 13) to discuss the proposed cooperation in education.
Minister Fursenko on the occasion extended an inviation to his Indonesian counterpart, Bambang Sudibyo, to visit Moscow in early April this year to sign the MOU.
Ambassador Awaluddin told the Russian education minister that Minister Sudibyo planned to visit Moscow after attending a UNESCO meeting in Bonn, Germany, late March 2009.
He also called on Russia to increase the number of scholarships for Indonesian lecturers wishing to get post-graduate and doctorate degrees from Russian universities.
The ambassador also asked the Russian government to send lecturers to teach the Russian language at the University of Indonesia in Jakarta and the University of Padjajaran in Bandung.
The Russian education minister said that he would pay attention to the ambassador's request for more scholarships although Russia had already increased the number of scholarships for Indonesia from time to time.
