IDB OKAYS US$83 MLN FOR INDONESIA`S INTEGRATED COMMUNITY PROJECT

By Muin Abdul Majid
DUBAI, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has approved
about US$83 million for the Integrated Community-Driven Project in Indonesia
that will directly benefit some 14 million people scattered across 4,871 urban
villages in 14 provinces.

According to Jeddah-based IDB, the project was aimed at reducing poverty by
empowering communities, particularly those affected by the 2005 tsunami, so that
they would be effective development players and partners through a comprehensive
integrated community-based approach.

In a statement, the bank said it recently approved US$348.15 million for new
projects in six member countries including Indonesia, as well as grants for four
Muslim communities in non-member countries.

Indonesia, which joined IDB in 1975, is one of the founding members of the
financial institution and is the largest Muslim-majority nation in the world.
