Prince Turki Al-Faisal: Issue of Mideast free of nuclear weapons tops agenda of ICNND Meeting
Washington, February 15, SPA -- Prince Turki Al-Faisal has
reiterated that non-proliferation of nuclear weapons in the Middle
East region comes at the top of the proposals presented to the
International Commission on Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament
(ICNND).
He noted that non-proliferation of nuclear weapons in the middle
east constitutes the first stage towards preventing its proliferation
at the international arena and enhancing the pillars of security and
peace.
The remarks of Prince Turki were made in a statement to Saudi Press
Agency during a meeting of the ICNND in Washington yesterday.
Members of the Commission represent a number of prominent figures
and it is co-chaired by former Australian foreign minister Ivans and
former Japanese foreign minister Kawagoshi.
Prince Turki underscored the important goals of the Commission as
regards non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and disarmament, and
said the Commission has been positively contributing to realization
of global and regional peace and security.
In addition to Prince Turki Al-Faisal, the membership of this
non-governmental Commission also includes representatives from
Mexico, the United States, Pakistan, Russia, Britain, Germany,
France, Norway, China, India and South Africa.
