Tourism on Baikal is short of air travel subsidies, online resources - Association of Tour Operators

MOSCOW, August 7. /TASS/. Development of air travel subsidizing programs and online resources with information concerning the region will significantly contribute to development of the tourism industry in the Baikal region, the Association of the Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) said on Monday.
"Online maps with designation of accommodation facilities and online maps of popular routes are needed. More information is required that is gathered in one point, publicly accessible for any potential tourists. Those desirous to depart to Baikal now have to search for information across the Internet. A lot of information is available but it is not sufficient and it is formed from responses of tourists that have already visited Baikal," Russky Express tour operator said.
A system of online booking of local travels between settlements is also required, the company said. The demand for Internet services in the region is explained by young age of clients showing the greatest interest in trips to Baikal, the Association said.
High price of air travel accounting for no less than 50% of the total travel price is the main obstacle for tourists, Alean Company said.
"A program of air travel subsidizing will be very helpful for development of tourism potential of the region. The air travel price is a serious obstacle for development of this destination," company’s representatives said.
