LG, Intel to make handsets with souped-up Internet function
SEOUL, Feb. 16 (Yonhap) -- LG Electronics Co., the world's fifth-largest handset
maker, said Monday it will collaborate with Intel Corp. on producing handsets
with enhanced Internet capabilities.
LG Electronics said in a statement that it will produce a handset based on
Intel's next-generation processor, capable of creating a PC-like Internet
environment. Intel is expected to release the new processor by 2010, according to
the South Korean electronics company.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The two companies have been cooperating in the production of laptops. In
November, LG Electronics launched an Intel processor-based notebook, designed
mainly for wireless communication and access to the Internet.
