KKP Offers To Build Fish Breeding Pilot Project In Jayawijaya
WAMENA, Papua, Aug 21 (Antara) - The Marine and Fisheries Ministry (KKP) offers to build a fish breeding pilot project in the regency of Jayawijaya , Papua.
"The ministry wants to build the pilot project in eastern Indonesia and we are offered the project. The problem is the availability of location," head of the district Fishery Office Lamberth Hesegem said here on Monday.
Lamberth said the district fishery office has only 2 hectares of land for fish breeding and the ministry wants 40 hectares for the project.
"They need more than what we have , and they do not want a new location . They want to expand what we already have at the Fish Breeding Center (BPI), but it is too small. They ask for 40 hectares and it is not easy for us especially when it comes to dealing with tribal community. It would be a long story," he said.
The project was earlier offered to the district administration of Merauke, but also for difficulty in providing location, it is offered to Jayawijaya.
"Now it is up to the district administration of Jayawijaya. If the regent gives the go ahead, we would build it here," he said.
If land is available, the KKP would provide the necessary fund for the fish breeding project complete with the facilities for fresh water fish breeding, he said.
"If the pilot project has become a reality other district areas could come here to study modern fish breeding system," he said.
