Samsung Electronics to set up LED venture with sister company

SEOUL, Feb. 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics Co.
said Tuesday it will set up a joint venture with a sister company to jointly
produce a semiconductor diode.
Samsung Electronics said in a regulatory filing that it has recently agreed with
Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. to build the 50-50 joint venture to produce
light-emitting diodes (LED).
LEDs are known to have many advantages to traditional light sources, such as low
energy consumption, longer lifetime and a smaller size,
Other details, including the amount of investment, were not disclosed.
