Seoul stocks open lower on recession woes

SEOUL, Feb. 18 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a weak start Wednesday on growing anxiety about a global recession, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 24.90 points, or
2.21 percent, to 1,102.29 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
The local currency was trading at 1,472.15 won against the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., down 16.65 won from Tuesday's close.
