FLOOD AGAIN INUNDATES SOLO

Solo, Feb. 18 (ANTARA) - Flood inundated hundreds of houses in Solo, Central Java, as Bengawan Solo river overflowed.

The flooded houses were located in the bank of the river, Salipi, a local resident, said here on Wednesday.

The flood's victims were forced to evacuate themselves to safer areas.

The local authorities have planned to relocate the people living in areas near the river bank, which overflows regularly.

Last January, Bengawan Solo River overflowed and inundated a number of villages.

The current rainy season has triggered floods and landslides in various parts of Indonesia, including in East Java, Central Java, West Java, South Sulawesi, East Kalimantan, and Aceh provinces.

La Nina, which is developing into Northern Hemisphere Spring 2009, is expected to cause above-average precipitation over Indonesia, during January-March 2009, according to the US NOAA's Climate Prediction Center (CPC) recently.
