-TURKISH FOREIGN MINISTER DEFINES RELATIONS WITH YEMEN PERFECT
SANAA (A.A) - 18.02.2009 - The Turkish foreign minister defined on Wednesday Turkey's relations with Yemen as perfect.
Turkey's Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said that Turkey and Yemen had very special relations dating back to history.
"Our relations are perfect," he said during a joint press conference with his Yemeni counterpart Abu Bakr Abdallah al-Qirbi on the sidelines of his formal visit to the Yemeni capital of Sanaa.
Babacan said that Yemeni President Ali Abdallah Salih visited Turkey in February 2008, and that this was the first state visit from Yemen to Turkey.
The Turkish foreign minister said that Turkey and Yemen had been coming together in many international platforms, and thanked Yemen for its support to Turkey's non-permanent membership to the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
Babacan said that the trade volume between Turkey and Yemen was over 300 million USD, and also said that Turkish companies were willing to invest in Yemen.
Foreign Minister Babacan left for Sana'a on Monday, visited Sana'a University on Tuesday.
The Turkish foreign minister is expected to meet Yemen's President Ali Abdallah Salih, Prime Minister Ali Muhammad Mujawwar, and Yemen's Parliament Speaker later on Wednesday.
