Minister Wants Batam's Many Ports To Combine

BATAM, Sept 25 (Antara) - Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said he wants Batam's many ports to combine to be more competitive. "We will make evaluation. Those not yet having license are asked to immediately seek the license , but we will see, what we could do," Budi said at a meeting with tens of sea transport service business players here on Sunday. He said the number of ports in Batam reaches hundreds as many companies built their own port that they are not efficient. If possible some of them should be combined for efficiency and to be more competitive, he said. "We will study which of them are not productive . Some of the hundreds of ports there must be ones not productive. The large the number the more not competitive they would be," he said.
