Samsung's former chairman may be discharged from hospital Thursday
SEOUL, Feb. 18 (Yonhap) -- Former Samsung Group chairman Lee Kun-hee is likely to
be discharged from hospital as early as Thursday after undergoing a regular
health check, a group official said Wednesday.
The 67-year-old Lee was admitted on Thursday, in a coincidence with news reports
that his only son, Jae-yong, was facing a divorce lawsuit.
The former Samsung chairman "will leave hospital as early as on Feb. 19 after
completing a regular health check," said a high-ranking official at Samsung.
According to the Seoul Family Court, Lim Se-ryeong, 32, has filed a lawsuit with
the court for divorce from Jae-yong, 41, after 11 years of marriage.
Lim is seeking about 500 billion won (US$342.5 million) in compensation and
custody of their son and daughter, local news reports say.
The junior Lee, who serves as a senior vice president of Samsung Electronics Co.,
has been on a visit to the U.S. since Feb. 6 to meet with clients of the company.
Samsung Group is the nation's largest business conglomerate, with Samsung
Electronics, one of the world's leading electronics firms, under its wing.
Lim is the daughter of the honorary chairman of Daesang Group, one of the
nation's largest food producers.
The couple met in 1997 and married one year later.
