MAGNITUDE 5.5 QUAKE SHAKES NORTH SULAWESI
Bengkulu, Feb 18 (ANTARA) - A magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook Meonguange, North Sulawesi, at 18:44:18 on Wednesday, according to the local Meteorology and Geophysics Agency here.
The epicenter of the quake was at 3.70 degrees northern latitude and 126.92 degrees eastern longitude, 142 kilometers southeast of Melonguane or 161 kilometers northeast of Tahuna, North Sulawesi, at a depth of 46 kilometers.
A magnitude 7.4 occurred in the region on February 12. The quake on Wednesday did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.
Earlier at 17:26:06 a quake also occurred in the region measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale. Its epicenter was 126 kilometers southeast of Melonguane in a depth of 10 kilometers.
