SURAMADU APPROACH BRIDGE COMPLETED END OF FEBRUARY
Surabaya, Feb 18 (ANTARA) - The builders of the Suramadu Bridge project will complete some of the most difficult segments of the bridge by the end of this month, including the two approach bridges, respectively on the side of Madura and Surabaya.
Head of the Suramadu Bridge Construction Task Force Atiyanto Busono said in Surabaya on Wednesday that he will see that the approach bridge of the Madura side would have been linked by the end of this month, which will be followed by continuing two other segments, namely the main span and the approach bridge on the Surabaya side.
He said that the connecting of the Madura side is entering its final stages.
It was reported that one of the causes of the delay in the completion of the Suramadu bridge has been the slow construction of the approach bridges.
By early in January, the approach bridges had been 78.20 percent completed, and by early in February, the completion reached 78.45 percent.
The most serious condition is with the completion of the approach bridge on the Surabaya side, which had been completed only 77.15 percent.
In the meantime, head of the National Road and Bridge Agency A.G Ismail said the next segments will be completed in stages. The mid-section will follow, and then the approach bridge on the Surabaya side, he said.
