PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV PRESENTED WITH EMBLEM OF "BAKU - THE CAPITAL OF ISLAMIC CULTURE 2009” CULTURE YEAR

Baku, February 18 (AzerTAc). Director-General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri presented an emblem of the "Baku - the Capital of Islamic Culture 2009” culture year to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during the year`s solemn opening ceremony held here today at the Heydar Aliyev Palace.

Addressing the ceremony, President Ilham Aliyev mentioned the role of the
Organization of the Islamic Conference and ISESCO in declaring Baku as the Capital
of Islamic Culture. He described ISESCO Director-General Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri
as a big friend of Azerbaijan, and said that it is thanks to his efforts that
relationship between ISESCO and Azerbaijan is on a very high level.
“We have been implementing various programs; a lot of events have been held under
the aegis of ISESCO. So, Azerbaijan-ISESCO relations have elevated to a new, higher
level. It is a matter of great importance,” the President said.
Also speaking to the ceremony were ISESCO Director-General Abdulaziz Othman
Altwaijri and Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic
Conference Atta El-Mannan Bakheet.
They pointed out the progress Azerbaijan has achieved under the leadership of
President Ilham Aliyev, as well as highly praised the role of the president of the
Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, Mr. Mehriban
Aliyeva in restoration of historical monuments and other important activities.
