Indonesian Needs To Rafity Actip Soon

JAKARTA, Oct 4 (Antara) - The Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (ICJR) has urged the Indonesian government to immediately ratify the ASEAN Convention Against Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children (ACTIP) to help combat trafficking in persons. "As an ASEAN member state, which has signed the ASEAN Convention Against Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, Indonesia is under moral obligation to ratify the convention soon," ICJR researcher Adhigama Budiman said here on Tuesday. By ratifying the convention, Indonesia will hopefully take an active part in the ASEAN Plan of Action Against Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, he said. Only Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam have not ratified the convention, while other ASEAN member countries, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam have ratified it. In 2016, the Indonesian government has been committed to formulating a national plan and bill to ratify the convention adopted by the regional grouping in November 2015. The convention will come into force after six of the 10 ASEAN member states have ratified it.
