KALLA THANKS SBY FOR CLARIFYING MUBAROK'S STATEMENT
Jakarta, Feb. 19 (ANTARA) - Golkar Party Chairman M Jusuf Kalla has thanked President Susilo Bambang Yhudhoyono for clarifying a statement made recently by Democrat Party executive Ahmad Mubarok that had offended Golkar cadres.
"I thank President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who immediately admitted that there was a mistake," Kalla said here on Wednesday at a meeting with Golkar Party legislative candidates.
Kalla urged Golkar's cadres to work hard and to thank anyone predicting that Golkar would get a small number of votes because it should be used to motivate them to work harder.
Achmad Mubarok recently said that the party had not yet decided to name Jusuf Kalla as a vice presidential candidate to pair up with the party's presidential candidate Yudhoyono for the presidential election later this year, considering that Golkar Party might only be able to collect 2.5 percent of the votes in the legislative elections on April 9 this year.
In response to Mubarok's statement, Kalla had called on other parties not to undermine his party. He said apparently Mobarok had made the remarks because the Democrat Party had had a "nightmare."
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyno, in his capacity as chairman of the Democrat Party's advisory board, later clarified the matter saying that his party did not have the slightest intention to undermine the Golkar Party and that Mobarok had spoken without the party's prior knowledge.
