Lamphun awarded “Clean Province”

BANGKOK, Oct 9 (TNA) - Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha presented “Clean Province” awards for provinces, which have been successful in solid waste management. The northern province of Lamphun won the best award for its management of community garbage in the national level, followed by Phichit, Lop Buri and Trang. In the provincial cluster level, 14 provinces were awarded for waste sorting and recycling as government offices are the model for local communities to separate garbage for better waste management. The prime minister said Thailand is one of the top tourist destinations and waste management is important for creating the country’s good image. The network of people in the communities and volunteers are needed to help address the garbage problem. He said he will also discuss with the Interior Ministry and the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry on how to reduce use of plastic bags. The Ministry of Education will be tasked with instilling awareness among youth of garbage management in educational institutes. (TNA)
