Inter-Korean military clash is matter of time: N. Korea
SEOUL, Feb. 19 (Yonhap) -- North Korea warned Thursday an inter-Korean military
clash is a matter of time, accusing South Korea and the United States of planning
to attack the North and conducting their joint drill to prepare for the invasion,
the North's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
In the report monitored in Seoul, the KCNA said, "U.S. imperialists and
warmongers of the South Korean puppet army are getting more frantic in their arms
build-up and exercises for a war of aggression against the DPRK these days." DPRK
stands for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the North's official name.
A day earlier, South Korea and the U.S. said they will hold their annual military
exercise from March 9-20 across South Korea. Pyongyang has denounced such drills
as preparations for preemptive strikes, while the allies say they are purely
defensive.
The Key Resolve and Foal Eagle exercise will be based on OPLAN 5027, a war plan
that allows the U.S. to take command of the combined forces upon North Korean
invasion.
