Bahrain participates in IPU Assembly meeting in Russia

Moscow, Oct. 15 (BNA): A parliamentary delegation chaired by Speaker Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al-Mulla yesterday represented Bahrain at the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly being held in St. Petersburg, Russia on October 14 – 18, 2017. Russian President Vladimir Putin patronized the opening session and stressed of the IPU role in highlighting various issues, attaching great importance to dialogue between nations’ parliaments. He called for addressing the increasing attempts to disrupt parliamentary dialogues and communication among lawmakers from various countries, emphasizing the need to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy. Al-Mulla, during the opening ceremony, pointed out the significance of the participation of lawmakers in international conferences to contribute to enhancing legislative expertise and invest them in promoting Bahrain’s interests in global parliamentary forums. He noted Bahrain’s efforts to support parliamentary work and communicating with the international community, highlighting the royal initiatives to bolster the values of religious tolerance and coexistence, and coinciding the global launch of Bahrain Declaration with the 20th anniversary of IPU's Universal Declaration on Democracy.
