Asia’s Energy Ministers meet in Bangkok

BANGKOK, Nov 2 (TNA) – The 7th Asian Ministerial Energy Roundtable (AMER7) officially kicked off in Bangkok as Asia n energy ministers will discuss three issues including the situation of oil markets, natural gas markets as well as transition of energy use from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
Thai Deputy Prime Minister ACM Prajin Juntong presided over the opening of AMER 7 at Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok, attended by Asian energy ministers from 24 countries and leaders of 12 international organizations.
The topic “Global Energy Markets in Transition: From Vision to Action” gives opportunities for 36 members countries, both energy producers and consumers and 20 energy organizations to express their views on the current energy situation and how to achieve in moving ahead to the transition into using more renewable energy.
Thai energy minister Gen Anataporn Kanjanarat and his counterparts from other countries will discuss the oil markets including increased members of Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries(OPEC), unrests in some oil producing countries, which could impact oil prices and the new regulation to use premium oil for international maritime travels.
Regarding the natural gas market, the meeting will touch on the LNG trade, which will become similar to oil markets. The changing situation needs to be discussed to ensure the stability of the LNG market.
In the afternoon, renewable energy will be top pf the agenda, particularly disruptive technology to support changing from fossil fuel to other sources of renewable energy such as solar power.
The discussion of solar rooftop, electric vehicles and energy storage system will benefit Thailand as the energy ministry is implementing the policies to support these more environmentally- friendly technology. (TNA)
