Indonesia, IEA Cooperate To Strengthen Energy Security

JAKARTA, Nov 10 (Antara) - The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is teaming up with the International Energy Agency (IEA) to strengthen energy security in the country. To realize the cooperation, both sides signed a joint work program (JWP) on Wednesday, Rida Mulyana, the ministry's director general of new and renewable energy, said in a press statement released on Thursday. The JWP covers energy data and statistic, emergency policy and energy security, oil and gas market, power sector and renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate change, and clean energy technology. "This cooperation is also aimed at strengthening energy security in support of sustainable global growth," he said. The JWP was signed by Mulyana representing Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan and IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol. "The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry warmly welcomes the cooperation with the IEA. The JWP is aimed at not only sharing data and information but also at improving capacity building of the ministry's employees in the field of energy data processing and analysis to formulate recommendations on the policy-making process," Mulyana said during an IEA ministerial meeting held in Paris on Nov 7-8. Indonesia was invited to the biennial IEA ministerial meeting themed "Strengthening Energy Security for Sustainable Global Growth." During the meeting, participants raised several issues including how to create conducive conditions to invest in the energy sector, strengthen energy security, and conduct transition to clean energy. "The Indonesian government has consistently made efforts to create a good climate for energy investment to be able to adopt a clean energy technology," he said.
