PEOPLE CALLED TO BOOST ENTERPRISING SPIRIT TO SUPPORT ECONOMY
Purbalingga, Feb 22 (ANTARA) - A parliamentary leader called on the people here on Sunday to develop enterprising spirit to help make the economy running and preventing it from plunging further.
The deputy chairman of House Commission V, Taufik Kurniawan, said that some 600 Indonesian migrant workers abroad would be laid-off following current global economic crisis.
"In addition to it, around 25,000 workers at home will likely become joblesss until July," he said at a meeting with villagers in Toyareka village in Purbalingga, West Java.
Meanwhile until February, he said, a total of 27,587 workers had already been laid off.
He said the government had already predicted a total of 60,000 workers would be laid of until July this year.
Kurniawan said in addition to the workers that had been laid off 11,993 other workers meanwhile had been suspended or received only their basic wage while 11,191 others were waiting for suspension.
He said most of the 600,000 migrant workers that would be laid off worked in the industrial sector. "This is the newest valid data from the ministry of manpower," he said.
He said the current global financial crisis had make the rate of unemployment in the country to rise "while 35 million people are living in poverty."
In view of that he called on the people to maintain and develop their enterpreneurial spirit to help move the economy so that it would not further drop.
