HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS GREET PRESIDENT IN ACEH

Banda Aceh, Indonesia, Feb. 23 (ANTARA) - Hundreds of elementary school students greeted President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono upon his arrival in Banda Aceh, here on Monday.

"We asked them (the students) to greet the head of state," Ali, one of the teachers of state elementary school SDN 40, said.

The students waving red-and=white flags lined up along the streets where the president and his entourage passed from the airport to the governor's residence.

President and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono are on a two-day visit to Aceh to inaugurate 13 projects worth around Rp700 billion. Some of those projects were developed under the Aceh-Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency (BRR) program and others were financed by the state budget.

One of the projects to be officiated is Tsunami Museum which is built to remember the deadly tsunami which devastated Aceh Province and Nias (North Sumatra) on December 24, 2006. Around 200 people were killed or disappeared and about one million others were displaced in the disaster.

On Tuesday morning, President Yudhoyono will hold a meeting with majors and district heads, as well as prominent figures of Aceh.

Meanwhile, the First Lady will visit the provincial handicraft center in Banda Aceh.***
