FOREIGN VISITORS TO ACEH TO ENJOY VISA-ON-ARRIVAL FACILITY
Banda Aceh, INDONESIA, Feb 23 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has promised to make it easier for foreigners to visit Aceh by allowing them to enjoy the visa-on-arrival facility at the province's Sultan Iskandar Muda airport.
"I agree to provide the visa-on-arrival facility for foreign visitors to Aceh and I will discuss the matter with the foreign minister," he said in reply to Aceh's Governor Irwandi Yusuf's request for it.
The president hoped the facility which would be provided in Aceh or other regions would facilitate foreigners in coming to Indonesian to enjoy the country's tourist attractions.
"If we can make it easier why should we make it difficult," he said on the sidelines of dedicating 13 projects in the province.
Earlier, Aceh Governor Irwandi Yusuf expressed the hope that the government would provide the visa-on-arrival facility to foreigners coming to Aceh for vvarious purposes.
So far foreign visitors to Aceh have to seek a visa on arrival in the capital city Jakarta or Medan in North Sumatra.
After the tsunami disaster in 2004 Aceh has been more open for international visitors to conduct humanitarian services. The provincial administration had also been intensifying efforts to invite investors to improve the region's economy.***
