OIL CONTRACTORS' TAX ARREARS NOT REPORTED TO ENERGY MINISTER

Jakarta, Feb 23 (ANTARA) - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said he had never received a report from the finance ministry on income tax arrears of the oil contractors of state-owned oil company Pertamina.

"We really want those tax arrears to be reported to us so that we can reprimand them," the minister said before attending a working meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Commission VII which deals with energy affairs here on Monday.

The minister said the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulator (BP Migas) had also issued a clarification on the matter after learning about it from newspapers. He said BP Migas had neither received a report about the tax arrears from the finance ministry.

"So, let's wait for it," he said.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, when giving an explanation to the Fuel Oil Inquiry Committee of the DPR recently, said that there were five oil contractors who still owed the state some US$113.1 million in belated income tax paytments.

The arrears were discovered during an audit carried out by the Development Fiance Comptrolling Agency(BPKP) in 2008 and 2009.

The five oil contractors were ExxonMobil Oil Indonesia with arrears amounting to US$22.816 million, JOB Pertamina-Golden Spike Raja Blok (US$10,125 million), Kangean Energy Indonesia Ltd (US$45.059 million), Santos UK (Kakap 2) Ltd (SU$2.389 million ) and Kodeco Energy Co Ltd with arrears totaling US$32.229 million.
