MAGNITUDE 5.4 QUAKE JOLTS MANOKWARI

Bengkulu, Indonesia, Feb 24 (ANTARA) - A tectonic quake measuring 5.4 on the Richter Scale (SR) jolted Manokwari, West Papua Province on Monday at 19:17:52 Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB).
Information from the Meteorology and Geophysic Station here on Monday said the epicenter of the quake was located at 0.82 degrees southern latitude and 133.31 degrees eastern longitude.
The temblor did not have the potential to trigger tsunami and was about 84 km Southwest West Papua Province at a depth of 10 km below sea level.
Manokwari was shaken by a magnitude 7.4 quake on January 4, 2009. Four residents were reported killed and 31 others were injured in the quake.
The strong quake also damaged 1,769 buildings consisting of 1,500 houses in Manokwari district, 217 in Sorong city and 52 houses in Sorong district.***
