Seoul shares open higher on U.S. gains



SEOUL, Feb. 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a strong start on
Wednesday, taking a cue from overnight rallies in U.S. markets, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) jumped 24.28 points, or
2.28 percent, to 1,088.16 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. shares surged Tuesday on financial gains. The Dow Jones industrial average
surged 3.32 percent, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite rose 3.9 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,503.4 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m.,
up 12.9 won from Tuesday's close.
