The NIHR’s team attended the hearings to ensure that all fair trial guarantees were provided in accordance with the standards set in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and other international and regional human rights instruments and declarations.
It also wanted to make sure that the court hearings were in line with the guarantees stipulated in Bahrain’s Constitution, the Law on the Judiciary, the Code of Criminal Procedure and other relevant national legislation, as applied to both the military judiciary and the civil judiciary, the NIHR also said.
In a statement, the NIHR affirmed that it would continue following up on the case during the appeal stage at the High Military Court of Appeals after the end of the legal time limit stipulated in the Code of Criminal Procedure (15 days after the issuance of the ruling of the court of the first instance on December 25, 2017).
