UAE MoD technology summit to welcome world’s leading defence nations and solution providers
Abu Dhabi, Feb 25, 2009 (WAM) -The UAE announced yesterday it will host the Advanced Defence '&' Security Technology Summit in Dubai from 27-28 April 2009.
This inaugural summit is set to feature as an annual centrepiece on the UAE calendar, bringing global defence and security leaders to meet with government officials the world over responsible for procuring and specifying advanced systems within a unique meetings-based format.
The two-day summit will be convened by the UAE Ministry of Defence in partnership with the Development Programme Group.
Welcoming senior defence and security officials including ministers, chiefs of staff, military commanders and director generals from the Gulf countries - featuring a strong presence from the UAE Armed Forces - leading NATO countries such as the US, UK and France and other global powers such as Brazil, Russia, India and China, the summit places special emphasis on the importance of enabling private discussions between military leaders and leading global defence companies, enabling the furthering of personal contacts and the signing of lucrative commercial agreements.
Focused on the leading geopolitical themes within the Middle East region, the summit will provide the opportunity for engagement between the private sector and defence policy makers, with bilateral and contractual discussions taking place at the highest possible level with commercial representatives from countries such as Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Topics to be covered at the summit include issues of maritime security will enjoy a strong focus, with much discussion centring on the need to protect vital installations from potential threats, particularly in light of the region's position as a transportation hub for the vast majority of the world's proven oil reserves.
Critical infrastructure will be a key area for discussion, as governments enlist the assistance of the commercial sector in strengthening national defences against emerging global threats, such as terrorist acts, weapons of mass destruction, assaults on key facilities and cyber-based attacks, all of which pose a major risk to interconnected sectors such as energy, telecommunications, transportation and key utilities such as electricity and water supply.
Elsewhere within the summit, leading companies will have the opportunity to showcase the latest technologies being employed for the protection of national borders. This will include new innovations such as the implementation of biometric identification methods, as well as physical infrastructure.
Furthermore, with over half the time of the summit being given over to private meetings between high ranking military officials and technology pioneers from within the corporate world, discussions will centre on the latest developments in research and development within land, sea and air, as well as in command and control systems and logistical support. This will include tactical and strategic aircraft, missiles and unmanned air vehicles (UAVs), major surface combatants, escorts, submarines and mine counter measures, and artillery, engineering and infantry systems.
