LION AIR PASSENGERS UPSET AT SOEKARNO-HATTA AIRPORT
Tangerang, Feb 25 (ANTARA) - Hundreds of Lion Air passengers heading for Makassar and Gorontalo from Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta airport on Wednesday morning were upset because their flight was delayed longer than promised.
The passengers, who had boarded the aircraft flight JT 792 which was scheduled to depart at 5:10 am, were then requested to get off the plane and change to Wings Air flight JTIW5.
Lion Air spokesman Kresna Darmawan said flight JT 792 had to be replaced with another aircraft of Wings Air TJIW5 after a technical problem forced a delay.
Edho, one of the passengers, said the flight was delayed and after waiting for an hour they were requested to board but at 8:10 am the passengers were told to leave the aircraft and transfer to Wing Air.
"I fell asleep and I thought we were already in the air, heading for Makassar, but when I was awakened by a passenger next to me, I found myself still at Soekarno-Hatta airport," Edho said.
Asked why the Lion Air flight was delayed, the company's spokesman said it was because of a technical problem but he told the passengers to stay calm and patient because they would be flown by Wings Air in the next 30 minutes.
Finally at 8:50 am, the restless passengers were asked to board Wing Air which had been prepared to replace the Lion Air plane.
Earlier, on February 18, 2009, a similar occurrence happened to hundreds of Lion Air passengers who wanted to leave Jayapura for Makassar and Jakarta.
They were stranded at Jayapura's Sentani airport as Lion Air flight GT 795 which was scheduled to leave Jayapura for Makassar at 8 am local time was delayed for several hours.
A Lion Air technician, Fathir, said due to a technical problem, the flight to Makassar and Jakarta would be delayed for about one hour. However, even after 10 am, there was no information when the plane would depart.
Some of the passengers said they had been waiting at the airport since 6 in the morning.
"We have been waiting here since 6 o'clock in the morning but until now we have no idea when we will leave," said Edy, one of the passengers for Makassar.
Meanwhile, Rini, another passenger for Jakarta, said she was bitterly disappointed about Lion Air's service because the delay would disturb her business appointments in Jakarta.
"I am bitterly disappointed because the flight's delay has messed up my business schedule in Jakarta today," Rini said in a sullen mood.
