PARTY LEADERS ATTEND ANTI-CORRUPTION DECLARATION FUNCTION

Jakarta, Feb 25 (ANTARA) - A number of political party leaders on Wednesday attended an anti-corruption declaration function organized by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
The KPK had invited the leaders of 48 political parties, including four local parties from Naggroe Aceh Darussalam province, to the anti-corruption declaration function.
Among the party leaders who met the invitation were Golkar Party Chairman Jusuf Kalla, Indonesian Unity and Justice Party (PKPI) Chairperson Meutia Hatta, United Development Party (PPP) Chairman Suryadharma Ali, Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Chairman Tifatul Sembiring, National Awakening Party (PKB) Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar, People's Conscious Party (Hanura) Chairman Wiranto, National Mandate Party (PAN) Chairman Sutrisno Bachir, Democrat Party Chairman Amir Syamsuddin, and Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Secretary General Pramono Anung.
The function started with the signing of an anti-corruption declaration by the political party leaders present, followed by a session in which each of them made oral statements on their commitment to wiping out corruption in the country.
Meanwhile, KPK Chairman Antasari Azhar said the political party leaders were influential figures and thus in a good position to spread anti corruption message among their party cadres and sympathizers.
Azhar said besides spreading anti-corruption messages, the party leaders themselves should assume exemplary roles in efforts to rid the nation of corruption.
"Political parties must also bear responsibility for the success of the corruption eradication program," the KPK chairman said.
