S. Korean footballer vows success in English club
INCHEON, Feb. 25 (Yonhap) -- The latest South Korean footballer to join an English club vowed to do his best for success in the Premier League as he briefly returned to Seoul Wednesday for visa arrangements.
"I still can't believe that I will be playing in the Premier League," said Cho
Won-hee at Incheon International Airport. He returned to Korea after signing with
Wigan Athletics on Monday. "I'll show my best performance to fans," Cho said.
The 25-year-old midfielder, a free agent after his contract with South Korea's
Suwon Bluewings expired at the end of last year, had been seeking a spot with a
European team.
"I want to follow in the footsteps of other successful Korean players like Park
Ji-sung of Manchester United and Kim Do-heon of West Bromwich Albion," Cho said.
He signed a two-and-half-year contract with an annual salary of 1 million pounds
(US$1.5 million), according to Cho's agent.
After obtaining the visa, he will depart for England next week and is expected to
debut in a match against Sunderland AFC. Wigan is ranked seventh in the 2008-2009
Premier League, while Manchester United is at the top.
