THREE RI SAILORS STRANDED IN ILOCOS NORTE RETURN HOME
Jakarta, Feb. 25 (ANTARA) - Three Indonesian sailors who had been stranded at Currimao harbor, Ilocos Norte, the Philippines, since November 27, 2008, have arrived home safely.
The return of the stranded sailors this week was facilitated by the Indonesian embassy in Manila, a statement of the Indonesian foreign affairs ministry said here on Tuesday.
The three sailors, Victor Saselah, Arsip and Tamsil Bangsa Direja, were crew members of Tiawan-flagged cargo ship MV Yu Tai. The ship had been forced to moor at Currimamo harbor, around 463 km from Manila, because their boat was damaged by bad weather in Philippine waters.
They were sent home to Indonesia by the Indonesian embassy in Manila after negotiations with Taiwanese company Jui Pang Shipping Co. Ltd based in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, since last January.
In the negotiations, Indonesia among other things insisted that the company return the sailors' passports and pay their salaries.
