Grand welcome awaits 'Mozart of Madras'

Chennai, Feb 24 (PTI) The film industry in southern
India has geared up in a big way to welcome double Oscar
winner A R Rahman, who will reach home on February 28, with
doyens like Ilayaraja, Yesudas and S P Balasubramaniam likely
to participate in a mega event in honour of the maestro.

A reception is being planned for the 'Mozart of
Madras' at the airport on February 28 while a bigger event
awaits the musician on March 1 in the city.

According to film industry sources, music directors M
S Viswanathan, Ilayaraja and singers Yesudas and S P
Balasubramaniam are likely to take part in the event.

The man who introduced Rahman to the film world,
veteran director-producer K Balachander, among others, is
scheduled to participate, the sources said.

Rahman won Oscars for the best original score for the
film "Slumdog Millionaire" and best original song -- 'Jai ho'
-- which bagged eight honours at the 81st Academy Awards. PTI
