Eritrea releases 55 Yemeni fishermen
SANA'A, Feb, 25. (SABA) - 55 Yemeni fishermen arrived in Hodiadha
seaport after they spent three days in the custody of the Eritrean
authorities.
They affirmed that the Eritrean authorities took them by force to
the Mukaitheh area of Eritrea while they were in international
waters in the Red Sea.
They were on three boats which the Eritrean authorities confiscated
as the fishermen arrived in the Mukaitheh area.
The Eritrean authorities also confiscated all contents of the boats
and deported the fishermen aboard one boat only.
Three Yemeni fishermen are still held by the Eritrean authorities,
the fishermen said.
Eritrean authorities continue to arrest Yemeni fishermen and
confiscate their boats despite records between the two countries.
Early this month, Eritrean authorities have seized a Yemeni fishing
boat in the international waters in the Red Sea along with 8
fishermen on board.
Last year, the Eritrea authorities detained over 200 Yemeni
fishermen while fishing in international waters. They usual
confiscate their boats along with boats contents.
